The 5th General Assembly of SOCRATCES was organized before the end of the 1st periodic report of the project and it was used to organize the reporting issues as well as to take important decisions about the next stage of the project with the construction of our prototype.
Almost the consortium was participating in the SOCRATCES meeting in Paris on May 22nd and 23rd. The meeting served to carry out an exhaustive follow-up of the project from the situation analysis of each one of the Work Packages. Summary of the work developed in the last six months, main novelties, open issues and future deliverables were addressed. Main decisions were about the engineering process (work package 6), in which it was agreed the updated version of the whole plant process flow diagram as well as the procedure to analyze the heat integration in the plant.
Once of the main outputs to be prepared for the next month is the final deliverable of work package 2 which describe the final decisions taken from the carbonation for the prototype construction: final reactor design, raw materials to be used, expected kinetics behavior, mass and energy balances of the reactor, etc. On the other hand, the carbonator will be delivery at USE’s facilities around December. Previously a reception schedule will be prepared by VirtualMech and University of Seville to clearly define the delivery procedure.
Furthermore, preliminary decisions about heat integration along the plant will be taken before June 14. The responsible for each potential heat exchanger was fixed as well as the border limits between main systems. And it was approved the updated version of the process flow diagram.
The important work that must be done during the second period of the project with respect to the business plan, the LCCA and LCC was also addressed. It will be from now on, after having made the main decisions about the implementation of the prototype, when all the information of the system is recompiled.
In a nutshell, it was a fruitful meeting that allowed the partners to address the design and future construction of the sub-units of the prototype, as well as make the best decisions to achieve the innovative objectives that are raised within SOCRATCES.
